Why ancient Greek Arts:

We consider the ancient Arts an undivided part of Greece culture and history. An experience which Greece guests should not miss when visiting Crete. Thus we suggest the experiential exploration of several Ancient Greek Arts in our tours such as ancient Greek Music, Theater, and Dance through experiential interactive labs.

Why ancient Greek Music:

The connecting and therapeutic results of sound, movement, expression, rhythm and voice are very well known since ancient times. The very first aim and goal of the ancient Greek theater, music and dance was to cure and to activate inner forces. The importance of the music for the ancient Greeks was tremendous, while the sound, the number of strings of the musical instruments and the music frequency was believed to activate the body balance and expansion and to bring the “catharsis” in body and spirit.

Elissos ancient Greek Music Lab:

We suggest the experiential exploration of the ancient Greek music through a lab which you can embody in your Crete day tour.

Our lab on the ancient Greek Music has a duration of two hours, it is conducted by an awarded Academic of Musicology and consists of two parts, a theoretical and an interactive part.

The theoretical part introduces the ancient Greek music to you through a lecture. Through an interesting slide show in private studio you will find out all about the ancient Greek musical instruments, musical forms, ancient Greek modes and moods, the harmony of the spheres and the ancient Greek musical notation. Surviving pieces of ancient Greek Music which the excavations brought to light in different parts of Greece will be presented and analyzed to you.

The second part is an interactive part, during which you will experience a coordinated interactive attempt on playing yourselves copies of ancient Greek percussion musical instruments directed by our Musicologist.
