DETAILED TOUR TIMELINE

  • The traditional village of Assites

    In this typical Cretan traditional village, you will get familiar with the traditional architecture and lifestyle of Crete today. You will explore some of the most ancient professions of the island, still practiced in the most authentic rural areas of Crete. You will also find out all about the Orthodox religion and Byzantine church architecture by visiting one of the oldest 16th century churches of the island.

    You will explore the Folk Art museum, Workshops of rural Crafts and Handicrafts such as Sheep Bells making and Basket Weaving and a local Honey Workshop where you will find out all about the honey processing and production and try local thyme honey. You will visit a local Dairy, experience the cheese making process and taste delicious local cheese.

    You will also taste unique Cretan local products right from the source, such as extra virgin olive oil and olives, local wine, local “raki” and herbal tea among other local delicacies.

  • Cooking Lesson

    A Cooking Lesson at a local’s house will follow. You will prepare and cook yourselves three traditional dishes and you will find out all about the Cretan traditional Cuisine in a fun and creative way.

  • Lunch at a Local's House

    For lunch you will be hosted by the Family at their Home. You will enjoy a three course traditional meal, including the dishes you cooked and additional dishes prepared and cooked by the housewife, from products of the family’s own production. All ingredients are fresh and organic, right from the family’s farm, while wine and “raki” will also be of their own production.

  • Seasonal Experience: Raki Making and Olive Picking

    From October to January, we invite you to participate in the Olive picking of the trees.

    From November to December, we invite you to experience the local Raki making process in the house.
